LIFECYCLE: Steinernematids and heterorhabditids have similar life histories. The non-feeding, developmentally arrested infective juvenile seeks out insect hosts and initiates infections. When a host has been located, the nematodes penetrate into the insect body cavity, usually via natural body openings (mouth, anus, spiracles) or areas of thin cuticle. The whole process can happen within 24 to 48 hours.

Release Instructions for Nematodes
Nematodes are packaged on a sponge without dehydration and without the use of unacceptable solvents, preservatives, or inhibitors making this product suitable for use in organic and conventional gardening and farming. The sponge formulation has the advantage that the nematodes can be easily removed from the sponge into water and applied using a conventional garden sprayer, a watering can, a hose-end sprayer, or introduced through closed irrigation systems (not soaker hoses).
Pieces of the sponge containing nematodes can be placed on floating root mats of aquatic plants growing in water, gardens, and ponds to control damaging fungus gnats. Mix the nematodes in at minimum of 1 gallon of water. More water can be used to increase the coverage area listed on the packaging. Once the nematodes have been separated from the sponge, disperse the mixture on the soil by spraying or sprinkling the water with a watering can, sprayer, or any water applicator. NOTE: You must remove the metal screen off all hose end sprayers in order to be able to disperse the nematodes.

Question: When should Nematodes be released?
Answer: Release upon receival, early in the morning or predusk when temperatures are cool and the sun is not bright.
Question: How long can you store Nematodes?
Answer: If storage is necessary place nematodes in a regular household refrigerator for up to 2 weeks. (DO NOT FREEZE)
Question: How soon will I see results?
Answer:Immediately upon release the Nematodes will seek out their prey. By infecting and killing off the larvae staged of the pests, the Nematode stops the reproductive cycle of the pests. For caterpillars such as; cutworms, armyworms or sod webworms you will start seeing a decrease in numbers in 3-7 days. For grubs and weevils such as; Japanese beetle, black vine weevil and billbugs, you will start seeing results within 3 days with maximum control occurring over2-4 weeks. Nematodes infect and disintegrate the pests from the inside out.You will not see dead insect bodies as you would with chemicals.
Question: How often should I apply nematodes?
Answer:Use nematodes during the spring and fall months, whenever larvae or grubs are present. At first sight of adult pests, such as; leaf-notching release nematodes because chances are their eggs will be hatching soon and will begin to feed on your plant roots. Keep in mind more than one application will be necessary. Our experienced farmers have indicated to us, that the application of Nematodes in the fall and in the spring have helped them tremendously to control pests that survive the winter and will begin to lay eggs in early spring.
Question: Will Nematodes live through the winter?
Answer:Generally speaking if your area experiences harsh winters, you will experience a significant decline in the population of Nematodes, which will be inadequate to control your pest problem the following year. If your pest return the following year, another application will be needed.
Question: Will Nematodes move to other areas?
Answer:Due to their microscopic size they have limited range.Heterohabditis will continue to move and hunt through the soil until they find a host. Steinernema feltia will stay put and ambush the pests as they pass by.
