If you've recently used pesticides, be sure to check the chemical compatibility with your predatory mites. We've compiled a list of some common chemicals as a resource.
Feeds all stages of the Two-Spotted Spider Mite.
ABOUT PHYTOSEIULUS PERSIMILIS:
With their pear-shaped bodies and long legs, these translucent predators stealthily navigate plants, seeking out their prey. They have a voracious appetite for two-spotted spider mites.
Best choice for an active infestation.
Our adult predatory mites serve as a natural solution for tackling mite infestations. These small but effective predators feed on all life stages of unwanted pests in your garden, promoting a balanced ecosystem. They work swiftly to reduce mild to moderate infestations, and for more severe cases, adjusting the quantity and frequency of their application may be necessary.
SLOW RELEASE SACHETS:
Don't fight pests, prevent them.
It's much simpler to prevent garden pests than to handle a full-blown infestation later on. Take a proactive approach by using our sachets, which contain a combination of predatory mites at different life stages. They gradually release pest control agents into your garden, ensuring ongoing protection. When aiming for a healthy garden, prioritizing preventative care is crucial. Incorporate monthly releases of these sachets into your Integrated Pest Management (IPM) program.
Light Infestation: 0.5-1 mite per square foot.
Heavy Infestation: 2-4 mites per square foot.
Release weekly or bi-weekly as needed.
Temperature Range: 43° - 90° F.
Humidity: 60% - 90%
Hang one sachet per 3-6 square feet, every 2-4 weeks.
It's important to note that these release rates serve as general guidelines and may vary based on the specific pest species, the crop or plant being treated, and level of infestation. Proper monitoring of the infestation and the subsequent effectiveness of the released beneficial insect population is crucial for determining the success of the biological control strategy.
Make use of Gardening Zone's Hanging Release Boxes for a clean and efficient method of deploying predatory mites. These release boxes are designed to concentrate the mites specifically on infested areas, allowing for targeted pest control without any mess.
If you are not sure if your infestation is Two-Spotted Spider Mites or you may be battling several different species of spider mites, try our Special Blend Mix.
For best results, release immediately upon receipt. If storage is necessary, store at 42°-48°F for no longer than 48 hours.
The complete life cycle of Phytoseiulus persimilis can range from as little as 5 days to several weeks, depending on the temperature. The reproduction rate of P. persimilis is influenced by temperature, with warmer temperatures leading to faster reproduction. The female mites outnumber the males, typically at a ratio of 4:1. Over their 35-day lifetime, female P. persimilis can lay up to 3 eggs per day. The oval-shaped eggs are approximately twice the size of two-spotted mite eggs and take a few days to hatch.
Each P. persimilis mite can consume between 5 to 30 spider mite adults or eggs per day, making them efficient predators. Unlike some other mites, P. persimilis does not enter diapause (hibernation), allowing them to be utilized year-round in greenhouses and regions with consistently warm climates. The lifespan of P. persimilis is approximately one week during their immature stages and around a month as adults.
