California Poppy - Eschscholzia californica

This is the wildflower that paints road and hillsides across California, Oregon, and the Southwest. A native, self-seeding perennial that shows up every spring like clockwork with cups of yellow and orange. As one of the first flowers blooming in spring, it's a magnet for early pollinators, and will often give a second smaller flush in fall. It's about as low-maintenance as a flower gets. Perfect for dry garden edges, rock gardens, and gravelly spots where little else wants to grow.

How to grow it
Direct sow only. California poppy develops a taproot early and doesn't transplant well, so it's best sown right where you want it to grow.
Scatter seeds in early spring or fall, pressing in or covering with no more than 1/8" of soil. Water moderately.
Expect sprouts in 7–14 days and flowers 8–10 weeks later. Thin seedlings to 8–12 inches apart. Once established they don't want to be pampered.
